The new event draws some of the city’s most forward-thinking electronic artists

I AM A LASER hopes to unite Angelenos from every artistic community towards a greater good: shared self-expression.

The enormously creative spirit of Los Angeles is like a wild animal roaming a wide land of innovation: producing music here, making paintings there, taking photos with lasers shooting off its head as it dances in the sunshine. Often the disparate elements of the L.A. arts culture stay that way as people are often too busy, too intimidated, or too far apart to try and connect over the vast Los Angeles basin.

I AM A LASER seeks to change all of that, uniting Angelenos from every artistic community towards a greater good: shared self-expression. Combining live painting, local photographers, talented producers, and a dance floor popping with the freshest beats L.A. has to deliver, I AM A LASER is far more than another club night – it’s a fusion of future culture, an evening where creativity is king, and “come as you are” is the name of the game.

Coinciding with Los Angeles’ monthly Downtown Art Walk on the second Thursday of every month, I AM A LASER is held at Club Nokia Mezzanine Bar and is the perfect landing spot for those who have been inspired wandering the art walk, and aren’t quite ready to call it a night. The new event draws some of the city’s most forward-thinking electronic artists: Daedelus, Gaslamp Killer, Deru, Take, and R/D have all graced the stage and spanked the dance floor of this swanky venue, a Bladerunner-esque location with curving walls, cushy velveteen nooks, and silvery-bright colors skating around the bar and lounge.

Double You, the creative mind behind the I AM A LASER website and event, sees the night as a microcosm of a broader movement of self-expression, one that could only happen in the unique spot in time and place we now find ourselves:

“For the past fifteen years or so in LA many artistic, cultural and musical expressions have become incredibly mashed up and intermingled. As a city, we’re about to collectively defy any sort of description or borders that have come before and that gift will end up being shared with the world. Everyone who reads our online magazine or comes to our events should leave feeling encouraged to find their voice and sing their song through whatever medium they choose. I AM A LASER is a vanguard for that! This is our life and our duty here on Earth, to participate constructively to the betterment of yourself and others. Come on down and bring it on up!”
